Questions of Immigration

So when I was visiting Max over the weekend the topic of Max actually making the move over here came up. I am beginning to think that the planets are going to have to be alined in order for this to go the right way!
First of all deciding which route to go under is going to be quite the undertaking. We could apply in one of two ways (I think): firstly, I could sponsor him to come over, which brings me to the first bump in the road, according the the definition of conjugate we cannot get married. But however if we get married before we make the application then we won't hit that bump! Now get this the Government of Canada wants to ensure the legitimacy of this relationship so they are requiring that we provide pictures and testimonials of our engagement party, the wedding, and the honeymoon! Not only that they want to know who proposed and where and what date! Yikes, I don't want to hand over my personal diary!! The second route which seems a bit easier is if Max were to apply for a residency permit on his own, he would qualify because he has the minimum requirement of "points", but has no work experience.
I am thinking right now that the easiest thing to do would be to hire a lawyer and get it done that way, I have heard that this process can take up to three years to complete!! Once Max gets his permanent residence he then has to wait three years and then he has to pass a Citizenship test to gain Canadian citizenship! Boy I tell ya if I didn't love the boy as much as I do, I don't think I would be able to handle all of this!!!

So Bush Was Here...

Yeah so Bush was here, he ate some Alberta beef and it didn't kill him. He went to Halifax to thank those who gave that trademark Canadian hospitality to those whose planes had to be grounded on 9/11, and then afterall that he wants us to supposed his missile program??? Sorry buddy don't think so, after we wasted all of out hardearned tax dollar on a few piece of shit submarines that the British army didn't want it's gonna be a bit hard to come up with some bling to support your stupid hair brained ideas!!
It took this idiot 4 years to come for a visit and it wasn't even official!!!

Speaking of idiots, Ralph Klein, the premier of Alberta was re-elected, ah shit not again! Unfortunately the Separation Party of Alberta didn't gain a seat, which would have made Alberta's political situation much more interesting. Let's face it this election campaign was a sleeper!
So there are two provinces in Canada that want to separate, and given my recent trip to Montreal and Quebec City, I think I know why!
So it will remain to be seen if whether or not public health care will be something that I will tell my grandchildren about!

Greetings from Montreal!

Well after a four hour flight where I edited my entire criminology paper at least twice I am here!

There are a few intial comments I would like to make!

- Taxi drivers here are nuts, I seriously lost count the number of bumpers we kissed while driving down the freeway at god knows what speed, afterall I couldn't see the spedometer!!
- I would love to see this place closer to christmas, it seems pretty so far!
- Max's apartment is something else, this place reminds me of a place where an old perverted man would live, plus it smells funny
- We have actually spent the night sleeping together on a single bed, a little cramped but it was nice to just have him next to me!
- For living in the center of Montreal it is rather quiet, even though the sound of police sirens ruins it everyonce and a while, usually in Innisfail you hear emergency sirens you usually follow to find out what is going on, here you really shouldn't!!!

So now it is time for breakfast, and then it's off to tour around the city and check out the sights, actually I think that it is mostly the Notre Dame. And just maybe a little shopping, just a little!

Just researching for papers!!

Well the time in amongst us once again, it is silly season!!! It is that time of year where all my time is devoted to writing papers!! Right now I am in the midst of researching a paper on barebacking. Barebacking is when two gay men engage in condomless anal intercourse. It is a really interesting topic and I have learned a lot so far. The paper is due on Monday evening so I still have lots more time to figure out what I am going to say.

I still have two more papers due in about another two weeks and then I am off to Montreal!!! Yahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Work was drama drama drama on Friday!! We got a survey about our working environment and when they were referring to our supervisior I though it was some one else. Needless to say I made a BIG booboo. So I went and fessed up to what I did, and I think that won me some bonus points with the boss. I hope so, because it should be rather interesting within the next few weeks, one girl is on sick leave and one is coming back from stress leave. I have to keep remembering that patience is a virtue!!

There are some that are sorry that Bush won!

I saw something on CNN today that made me happy, there are people that feel bad that the other half of their country was stupid enough to vote for Bush. Check it out at:

Oh please snow soon!

Okay so now that I have gotten all that political bullshit stuff out of my mind, it is time to write about personal pressing issues.

Well I did it I dropped one of my classes so far, I think that I might have to drop another one here soon, I am going to wait to see what my midterm mark looks like first and then I think that I am going to take this course in Calgary in the spring. It will be much less taxing on my system!!

So now we have snow in the mountians and it is that time of the year again, time to take my skis out of the guestroom closet, blow the dust off of them and take em out for yet another season of skiing. The only problem is the day that my favorite ski resort opens I have to work, you're probably thinking to yourself, so what call in sick and go. Not that simple, it is what we call here a satutory holiday, which means we get paid time and a half for being there. GRRRR As for having snow here it might be sometime close to christmas before we get any snow that sticks around. Right now it is raining and grey, which makes me think I would be better off in Goteborg right now!!! (Lanny don't you wish!)

It is also getting towards the end of the month which is really cool because I am taking a whole 5 days off to go to Montreal to see Max. I am really looking forward to seeing his new environment. I am thinking that he wishes that he could have gotten into some where like Simon Fraser University in Vancouver instead, that way we could see each other more, and going away for the weekend could be more possible.

So other than that I have been contemplating in getting a second job for the holidays. A little extra money here and there would be nice just to get through the holiday season. Plus with another tuition payment looming my finances are looking rather grim, too bad I couldn't just jet off to Sweden to finish my degree!!

So... Bush did it again!

I think alot of us are still scratching out heads trying to figure out just how in the hell did George W. Bush won himself a second term of office. Quite frankly all of us are feeling like somehow the wool has been pulled over our eyes once again. I myself feel a little bummed for the people in the United States, another four years of an idiot war monger as the head of you state.

In news more pertaining to me, I finally went and dropped that class that I couldn't really wrap my head around. I also found out that I have only 7 courses in my degree to complete and then I will officially be a degree holder. Holy shit!!! I will be the most educated person in my family! Not bad for a bunch of redneck Albertans!!!

As for work... well it's work. There is a new thing that kinda has my goose and that is that one person who was hired after me was asked to go up to soiled laundry (which believe it or not is somewhat a promotion because there is more pay involved!!). But oh well at least I have a job to go to. I keep thinking it would be nice to go back to my old job at the Co-op, one advantage is it would keep me in a loop of gossip that would see me result in landing a book deal. They can't seem to keep staff around that place, they are already short three supervisiors, hmmmmmm. In all actuality if I am to work for some extra cash it would be at the place that I had my very first job. Innisfail Meats, which means the pay would be okay but I would come home smelling like meat and feeling all greasy! UGH!

So for those of you in the states that did get out and vote on November 2 good for you and for those of you who didn't you have no right to complain for the next 4 years. You'll probably just move to Canada anyways, because GWB will lose your job for you!

Will November 2, 2004 Go Down In History?

Okay this is pretty much judgement day down in the states. People all over the world have been looking forward to this day for a long time. I remember when they were having democratic primaries earlier this year and the coverage by Swedish television was something else, I didn't think that something like this would get some much attention, yes I know that America is dominerring to some extent here in North America but in Europe. But when I really think about it I think I know why we are all paying such close attention this time around, it's because we all know that old GWB rigged the election to win, there is so much controversy about it this day that you gotta wonder what the shady old bugger is going to do next.

I love the emphasis that people are making to get others to go out and vote. I saw Jennifer Aniston last night, so this is what you do when you don't have to go to work!! Now when I was in high school we talked about the Canadian electoral system, and we just barely touched on the American system, I think I know why, a person literally has to have a degree in political science in order to understand the american political system. In some cases one person, one vote, one voice does not apply. They have this rather fucked up system known as electoral college in some states. It is no wonder there is voter apathy is these parts, who would want to vote and not have their voice heard. One thing that mystifies me is that you have to register well in advance in order to vote, oh wait a second you can vote at the last minute, you can vote on a provisional ballot? What the hell is that? Well say you go to vote and you are not on the voters list but you still want to vote, you can use a provisional ballot, but the provisional ballots will only be used in cases where there is tight race yeah that is getting my voice heard loud and clear. In Canada all I need is a voter card which is mailed out ahead of time, and all I need to do is bring ID the rest is taken care of!!

Another thing that really gets me is this whole two party system, what happens if you don't like either candidate and you still want to vote, do you go out and vote for the lesser of two evils or do you go out and spoil the vote? Now okay I know that Republicans are right wing and Democrats are left wing, well what about some one in the middle, or what about putting some extremists in there, could you imagine communists in america? Scary thought for the poor communists, living in fear that they would get browbeaten by some crazy dumbass republican (cough Bush cough cough)

Why is it that these terms of office are either 2 years or 4 years?? Now what kind of legislation is going to get put through in that amount of time, not to mention if you're president for 4 years and you get your ass kicked, and the incumbent says that every piece of legislation that you put through was shit? What is going to happen now? Sounds pretty counterproductive to me don't you think??? Not to mention term limits!! Seriously Clinton could have done the states a hell of a lot of good if they were able to keep him in office a bit longer. Hell they wouldn't have gone to Iraq. Wow almost $2 billion saved there, you could have put that towards a national percription policy, wow!

So tonight I am going to sit at home curled up in my chaise and watch the results, hoping and praying that something better will come along in the future. Afterall we are still living in fear of nuclear anialation, Osama bin Laden, and the Bush Brothers. I am going to try and figure out all this confusion on my own and hope to make sense of all this in four years time, but then again will there be a vote in four years time, I guess we will have to wait and see!!

I think it's a sign!!

Okay I have had some interesting reasons for not coming into school on time, today I recieved a phone call from my mother. Apparently the overpass that is the access to the freeway has been closed because for the second time in some three years a dumbass truck driver has crashed his semi-truck into the overpass. So now I am religated to taking a small secondary highway to school, I think that I would be better off taking the back roads!!

So now I am wondering if this is a sign, that I am not actually meant to go to school this term. I get to see Max in 24 days!!! Goody!

Thursday, October 28, 2004

Okay you know you live in a rural area when...

Okay I am driving to school when I hear over the radio that there is a detour on the route that I am taking to school. Okay so I am thinking that some idiot out there got into an accident because he was driving too fast, it happens a lot around here, especially when people do not drive for the weather conditions, I swear it is a gene that is only found in red-blooded Albertans!!! And maybe the few exceptions are those from Saskatchewan!! So anyways I am on the highway and I have no idea where abouts this road closure is because the girl on the radio isn't too bright about describing where exactly this traffic issue is. As it turns out some truck driver lost his load of hay bales. That's right people there was hay every where on the highway.
This has made my morning because as it happens,my father-in-law-to-be Erland says that I lead a rusticated life, that in my time in Sweden he hoped that he would have been able to put an element of sophistication in my life, but apparently was completely unsuccessful.

Should I or shouldn't I

So as some of you know, I love my education but let's face it I am not the greatest student on earth and I have the GPA to prove it. Anyways I am in the final part of my degree, I am basically getting the formailites done. I have hit a snag, surprise surprise. I am taking a senior level course and I have no idea what is going on, I have attended the classes but I still feel so lost. So I am going to drop it, but then again if I stick with it I fulfill a senior level requirement. I guess on the upside is I can take a senior level course in Calgary this spring and I more likely to get a better grade there. This is so frustrating.

The Upside and Downside of Union Jobs!

Okay I am not totally bitching and complaining about my job it isn't so bad. But there are a few things that are so totally mismatched it makes you wonder how on earth it exists

On the upside:
-in this union job I get paid $11.89/hr to do something that could easily be done for $7/hr
-in this union job you could injure one of you other co-workers (she turned on a machine while someone was trying to clear a jammed piece of material and that someone lost her thumb) and still not get fired!
-my job is secure, i would basically have to send a bomb threat in order to get fired, and well sorry peps I don't want to go to jail for something so stupid.
- This job is the easiest thing I have ever done, it is rare that you have to fold things by hand, there is machinery there to do it for you, you basically just have to place it there.

On the downside:
-the gossip is absolutely unreal, I have just started so I don't know every piece of gossip out there, but oh my, thank god I am in the good books of the two biggest shit disturbers in the whole place.
-when someone who thinks that they are the "floor leader" can get away with not doing her fair share of the work. When we get baskets of sheets they are mixed up, there are about three different kinds of sheets and pillow cases. I have been told since day one that every group(there are three)are supposed to sort three baskets of sheets. Well yesterday my group sorted 7 baskets of sheets, 4 baskets of OR, and three baskets of gowns. Yeah I sense a bit of unbalanced share of work!
-in non-union jobs it is relatively easy to get someone fired, I have been able to achieve this feat three times!! In a union job there is virtually no way to get someone fired!

So yeah I had a rough day at work yesterday, I was a little pissed about having alot more work to do than what I normally have to do, another one of my co-workers was a bit more pissed than me because they called soil down twice to help us because we were behind. So it should be interesting to see what kinda spin this lazy chick is going to put on this today, maybe I should make an appearance and find out from the real "floor leader" what is going on.

Ah, office politics and women, a brutal combination!

Just hanging out at home, sick with my mom who is also sick!

Well last night I found a voice-mail message from my boss asking me to come into work today if I could make it. I am sorry buddy but I am sick with something my mother brought home from her work, and I am not about to go to work and get someone else sick as well, even though as a casual worker this would be totally ideal.
So I went to the doctor this morning. I am supposed to stay on my industrial strength laxative for the time being, it is keeping things moving, let's keep it that way!! I also got some Zythromax which is a really good antibiotic so hopefully within a few days everything with me will be ship shape with me again!!!
So being home sick has led me to one conclusion, time shifting on the satellite is great and daytime television bites the big one!
Well that is about all from me.
Ciao!

Accident Ettiquite

Well I woke up this morning to some fresh snow. Wonderful yes, but also very dangerous. I left for school this morning 45 minutes early because as usual the roads would be in bad condition. I was right, coming down a hill "Antler Hill", there was an accident, there was a truck going southbound that lost control and crossed the median and split into two and the front end of the truck ended up in the passing lane going northbound. It looked like it just happened so I decided to get out and see if I could offer any assistance. Emergency crews were on the way but the traffic was backing up so me and another guy started directing traffic so that way emergency crews could get there faster. We had one guy who was a total asshole who said that we were crazy to be out there directing traffic. So I ask all of you who do winter driving to do the following:
-allow lots of time, just because it is nice out your front window doesn't mean that it is going to be that way at your destination.
-slow down, I learned this lesson a few winters ago, when you hit a patch of black ice you're pretty much done for.
-if you come to an accident scene turn on your blinkers to warn others behind you of the situation. If there are emergency crews on site you don't have to stop.
-if you witness the accident, stop. Did you know that leaving the scene of the accident without talking to the police is a criminal offence, here in Alberta I think the ticket is about $500.
-if there is no one around stop also, check to see if you should call 911.
-paitence is a virtue people!!! if you happen to get caught up in a traffic jam due to an accident be paitent and don't be rude because if you piss off someone badly enough they can report your licence plate. Did you know that when an ambulance is in transit the person in the passenger seat is writing down your licence plate number to give to the cops because you were not giving the right of way.

Does anyone care to tell me what else is going on?

I just read in Sarunas' Blog today that Forrest is now a daddy! Is there anything else out there that I am missing??? Care to share with me about that new mole that is appearing under your left ear that is growing a purple hair???

In other news from me, it looks like our snow might be here to stay, has been snowing for the last three days and it isn't melting away! OOOOHHHH skiing!

So I am alone again!

I took Max to the airport this morning, it felt kinda weird because I knew that I am going to see Max next month for his birthday. And the nice thing is that I didn't cry at all, I think it is because every time I watch Love Actually I can't watch the beginning or the end because it makes me cry!

So now thngs are pretty much back to normal! Except now there is about 3 cm of snow on the ground which makes me happy while other people bitch and complain about it.

So Max, if you decide to read this you are in some mega shit! You haven't called or e-mailed me to tell me whether or not you made it safely! You thought that you were in shit with your mamma, you ain't seen nothing yet!!

Snow!

Well what a wonderful thing to wake up to this morning!!! In a way it makes me all warm and fuzzy when I see snow!!!

Wednesday, October 13, 2004

So Max is here!

So he's been here since Saturday and it has been really nice. I ended up going to work this morning and then coming home because I didn't feel very well, I guess that is what happens when you are literally full of shit! So I came home to Max's surprise and then I went right to sleep in my chaise. I slept for about 4 hours, and now I am trying to cram for my international relations mid-term, the good news is that I seen this morning is that this mid-term is only worth 10%.

As for other things, Thanksgiving went very well, Max is looking forward to the Chirstmas turkey, which I think means that mom is going to have to buy a bigger turkey for Chirstmas. Marie and Ryan came for dinner on Monday which was really interesting because my Grandpa took a shining to her when she poked at his belly, I don't think his new wife thought it was so great, they left fairly soon after the meal!

I found out today that I have been replaced as Lanny's craziest friend! Bummer dude!

Friday, October 08, 2004

Oh the preparations!!!

Well Max comes tomorrow! I am getting excited, I haven't seen Max since June, so far I have cleaned out my room, I still have to clean out my bathroom, my car and tomorrow I have to change the sheets on my bed, and fluff up the feather beds. Mom and I are going grocery shopping tonight, that way we won't spend a small fortune on groceries when Max is here! But now I have to rest, afterall I just got home from work!

Living in a small town where nothing happens!

Signs that you live a small town where nothing happens:

-on the front page of the community paper there is a picture of the town's newest set of traffic lights.
-you read the obituaries to see if anyone you know has died, and of what.
-you read the happy ads to see if there is anyone you know has had a baby or gotten married, and then if you have discovered that someone has and you weren't invited then you get really pissed off.
-you read the development permits page to see if there are any new businesses coming in or find out if someone is building a new garage!

See this is what I have to live with!!!

Just another day here in Alberta.

Well there is really not too much new with me as of late. I received an e-mail from Max's mother, she has a website up and running, it showcases her business that keeps her impossibly busy, the stable, and Erland's artwork. You should check it out at http://www.fqi.se and a quick disclaimer is that it is in Swedish.

Other than that Max comes at the end of this week which is going to be very nice because the last time I seen him SAS was trying to send me first to Toronto and then to Johannesburg. He's coming for some quality turkey time!! That right folks, here in Canada we celebrate Thanksgiving this weekend. It is usually a time that symbolizes the end of the harvest, especially here in these parts, living on the praries. So needless to say I am spending alot of time cleaning the house for his arrival, not to mention looking forward to some shopping too because of Quebec's double dipping sales tax policy Max is coming to shop too!

Right now I am on a committee that is planning a Bachelor of Arts conference which is going to showcase student achievement but also to recruit those who have not made a choice as to what they would pursue in terms of a university degree. I was in an hour and a half long meeting today and it was really interesting to see what is going to come about with a collaboration between students and faculty.

I am watching the vice presidental debate right now and it seems like a pretty tight debate right now, although Cheney looks like he should be taking out that stick that is shoved up his but right now. He seems to be bored with the whole process.

Some people that drive suck!!

Okay I saw something on my commute home that made me giggle. I saw a semi passing a guy driving a Mercedes Benz hatchback, it would have been funnier if the guy's licence plate was from Alberta, but it was a Saskatchewan plate. But really people if you are going to be spending that kind of money for a car like that, use it for what it is supposed to be used for SPEED!

Not too much new!

So I have decided to take a sickie today so that way I can get some researching done for 4 term papers that I have due at the end of November. I know I am actually starting early, I am trying to override my procrastination gene. In all actual fact I am trying to get them all done early so I can go and party with Max in Montreal on his birthday.
But I do feel like a bag of crap today as well. I went for an abdominal ultrasound this morning and the girl that was doing it was pressing rather hard on one spot and it has kinda made me sick to my stomach, not good. So I am taking it easy.
If anyone has any ideas about the following topics let me know: barebacking, sensation and perception and id theft and fraud.
Thanx!
Peace out people!

Go out and vote!

Okay I was watching Oprah today and there was something really interesting and that is hardly anyone gets out there and votes. The way I see it, it is very simple, it is a way of telling the government that you are happy or not happy with direction that your country is moving. In the United States and Canada there is a movement to make abortion illegal. Which to me as a woman is a violation of my rights to have control over my body. How is it that middle aged men can make the decision that abortion should be illegal? If someone could explain that to me then by all means please e-mail me with your case!!! Come on I dare you!!!

The very first post

Well I guess that you can say that I am taking this idea from my friend Sarunas and running with it. I think that this is a totally cool idea. Well what can I say, I am paying too much for a post-secondary degree that will not gurantee a job once I am finished. I should have been born Swedish!!! I just finished spending 10 months there, studying Swedish culture and society. It was an amazing opportunity to think in ways that are not possible by living in small town Canada. I was basically born a redneck, but you would never guess because of the opinions that I hold.
A major turning point in my life has definitely been my experience in Sweden but also coming home and dealing with the fact that my father who died in June 2003 is not here anymore.
Major pet peeves in life: people who agree with the American perspective i.e George Bush, people who can't drive, people who are leftist and hold it against others who aren't namely one person in my poli sci class, people who don't use common sense that they in actual fact possess, and people who use others to gain further in life when in actual fact they are destroying the other person involved.
