So today I found out that my application for one position is being sent to the department for further examination. I will be contacted for an interview soon. Oh god I hope so, because I was virtually forced to sign up for benefits that I don't want nor need. So much for having money each pay day!

Can someone please tell me the answer to this question?

I read an article in the Calgary Sun about how there are so many job openings in the service sector because there aren't enough people willing to work these type of jobs. I can completely understand why. Things have changed so much in about the last 8 years. People used to be happy when they got good service and they would treat you good back. It was rewarding to work at such a place back then. Now people feel as though they should be ENTITLED to get good service, even when they are rotten and nasty AND DOWN RIGHT RUDE!!!! God forbid if they ever get me as a customer!!!

Post-academia depression!

I've kinda been in a funk since Max left. It's weird. I don't have reading to do for school. I don't have assignments to work on. I don't know what to do with myself! When I have a day off all I want to do is sleep and all I can think about is sleeping and yet it takes me forever in a day to fall asleep some nights!! Grrrr!

Performance review!!

I thought that now that I am a manager that I would be able to forgo the whole performance review (which to me is utterly pointless in a place such as this!). Nope! I was sooooo wrong on that one. My boss comes in for his morning boost and proceeds to inform me that my performance review is done and that we should get together some time next week and we will discuss some things. Hmmm this should be interesting!!

One last thing and then I am going to bed!

Ok here's yet another frustrating thing about my job. Ok, it's not that I would like to be the center of attention but a little recognition would be nice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Case in point.

One would think that because I worked there previously for 5 years that you know a little note to welcome me back would nice. Say a little something about why I left and why I am back. Say something about my experience and that I am somewhat OVERQUALIFIED to do the job but you know what the hell! Plus when someone else gets hired back who didn't have as stellar as a record as I did and gets a huge posting on every fuckin bulletin board in the fuckin place, HE'S THE FUCKIN HERO!!!

I got a call from my hubby who is back in Sweden for a bit and I can tell that he is not sleeping well. I know because he's cranky!!! It's because circumstances are beyond his control right now and he doesn't like that. Yeah...

I had an older lady come in today with a application. Under salary expectation she put $10/hr! Hello! I only make $12! And on top of that they want me to sign up for benefits!! I don't think so! That would mean another $100 deduction on my paycheck, I don't think so!

U of C stickin it to Macleans magazine!

Poor U of C, it never gets the best of ratings from Macleans magazine in it's review of Canadian univerisities. I went to U of C and well I enjoyed the experience ( yeah I know that going there during spring and summer terms doesn't give you the feel for the place but I enjoyed the expereince none the less).

Anyways according to the CBC, 11 Canadian universities, U of T, U of A, and UBC just to mention a few, criticized Macleans comparison of apples to oranges approach. I say good on them.

Help! I am living in red neck hell!

I happen to overhear something today that really really scared me.

Now, I don't claim to be an all out expert on religion, I just took a course on Western religion back in the spring and I have come to the conclusion that I know less now about religion than what I did before I took the course. I do know a few things for certain:
-Western religions come from one base religion: Judaism. From this BOTH Christianity and Islam stem from this.
-The Middle East has been a battle ground since the beginning of time
-Islam is a peaceful religion.

With that said, I happen to overhear the other day two people talking and one saying to the other that they can't understand why the world is so unstable. Take a look at the community around you for a start. You have ugly and stupid people reproducing (I know I sound brutal and absolutely inconsiderate, but if you lived around here, you'd know what I am talking about). Our society is failing and with that it spreads to the greater community around us and before you know it the whole world is infected.

This is why terrorism exists, this is why there is such social discord in this world. I fear for our existence.

A sign of domesticity!!

Some of you may never believe this when you read it. I peeled potatoes today with a peeler given to us as a wedding gift and guess what!! I actually enjoyed it! It wasn't so bad at all. I think this learning to cook thing might not be so bad after all! Being domesticated wouldn't be such a bad thing. Oh god I hope Max doesn't read this!!

Ok for some unknown reason beknownst to me and my other friend/co-woker my boss has been coming in on Sundays. It's not like he doesn't get his "40" in my any means (and he's alot better than he used to be!) So he came in this morning to get his refill and he asks me a question, and being eager to the point that I want give him an answer as fast as I can, giving the front that I actually do like my job. So I hear that you... and as soon as I heard that I am thinking to myself that he knows that I have been actively seeking something that is somewhat related to my education. Shit what do I say? So I listen further and he says to me that he hears that I have a couple candidates for new employees! Oh yes! Thank god! Yes, yes I do! Man that was close. But I mean really come on! The guy has to have some sort of a clue right!! Hell if they can come up with some half baked lies about what I said about some one else then he has to know that I am not happy and need to be finding something else!!

Just checked my stat counter and well wow! 24 hits yesterday. One found it by searching for some info about the restraining order that LC put out on Jason (Laguna Beach/The Hills). I am getting excited about season three coming up. It starts next week in the states but here in Canada we have to wait another month. GRRRR It kinda feels like a kid and you are watching Saturday morning cartoons and you see this really cool neat product advertised on tv but the only problem is that it is going to take like 6 months for it to come to Canada. I guess from that perspective a month isn't a whole lot. The nice thing is that I might be able to access the story lines from the MTV US site. The internet is such a wonderful thing!!!

That is all I ever seem to do in the life... wait. I am waiting for my husband to come back from Sweden so we can start our married life together. I am waiting for word that I am going to recieve my degree in November, which of course that means that I wait even more. I am waiting to get Max's immigration application sent in. I am waiting to hear back from the dozen or more jobs that I have applied for in the last month or so. I've already gotten two rejection letters. I am waiting for my financial situation to be better because this totally sucks on living literally on less than $100 a week.

And right now I am waiting to feel tired enough to sleep but it is three in the morning already and it looks as though hope is fading somewhat. But for me hope is not lost entirely. I am paitent. It's been proven time and again. I waited 7 years to marry the love of my life. Not because I wasn't ready, and it wasn't because he wasn't ready either. We both knew what we wanted, education first and then love. It sounds reasonable don't you think. It's worked out so far. One year is fast approaching!!

Wow, I just checked my stat counter and found that there was 17 hits to this site yesterday alone!! Cool, I am just curious as to how some of you found this!!! It's not like I am some really really interesting person with a life that has to be followed, although my life has seen more than it's fair share of drama. The last 4 to 5 years alone could fill a 200 page note book with every nasty and gritty detail of my drama. Actually had I had the time to write it all down I probably would have been able to fill a few notebooks!!

Whoo hoo! I've got applicants!!!

Well this is pretty cool I came to work this morning and found out that I had two applicants for some positions that I am trying to fill at the coffee shop!!! One candidate looks like she has enough experience that I could make her a manager trainee!!! That is if I get a different job!!! Man I hope that I hear something soon. I need a boost like this, mentally, emotionally and mainly financially!! November is coming fast and right now as it stands I am going to be screwed. My student loans come through and if I don't get a different position I am going to have to be subsisting on $20 a paycheck with a husband to support as well! GRRRR!

I miss my mister!!

Okay I know that we are married now and so we should probably stop what I call the Affectionate Lovey Talk but Max has only been gone for a few days and it's sooo weird. Normally we are used to spending more time apart than time together. But it has been hard to get used to him not being here. I miss my mister, and he misses his mrs!!

A small indulgence

Ok, I have to admit that I am pretty happy that MTV Canada is back. It's more of something to have on as background noise than anything else. However something has captivated me. I guess it's because well I am rather facinated with teenagers, and nooooo I am not some sicko (HOW DARE YOU!!!) I am one of those that just likes to observe them. I think it's because I wasn't cool in high school, I was on the outside looking in. I think it's because I have such an old soul, I was never into the whole high school drama thing when I was in high school. I just wanted out. Now it's like I want back in. I guess that is why I have to admit it, I am a Laguna Beach/ The Hills addict!!!

And now I am pretty excited about something. Lauren getting the guts to put a restraining order on her boyfriend Jason. Now whether that is true or not I don't know. My research on the web tonight turned up nothing. Just a public statement that Lauren had ended her relationship with Jason. THANK GOD!!!!! I don't like the boy, he's bad news!!!! First of all he smokes, I don't like licking an ashtray and I can't believe someone like Lauren would also. Secondly, he freaks out at the slightest of things, one sign, he's insecure about something. And judging from the pictures on his Myspace page, he's riding on Lauren's coatails. Lauren thank god you got the guts to kick him out before you got so far into that relationship that getting out of it would have caused some serious psychological damage!!! I can't wait to see season 3 of Laguna which is supposed to starting next week on MTV in the states but I don't see anything about when it is coming to Canada. Probably when The Hills ends here in about two weeks time. Ahhhhh I finally found something to watch on Wednesday nights!!

I gotta find something different!

What a day. I went to work early, really really early this morning. I ended up going over somethings to try and figure out what to do and where to go. Well it didn't take that long to do, other than staring at a computer screen for a really really extended period of time I couldn't come to any conclusions. I tried to take as many little breaks as I could so that I could be able to work longer. I tried, I really really did, but it's one of those things that I gotta get this stuff done, but what do I do??? I play Ma Jong (I know I didn't spell that right) for over an hour!!! But tomorrow is another day and I got stuff to do then as well. But I have come to the serious conclusion that I have to find something better for the fall. I can't live on what I am making, hell I am barely able to make all my payments as it is. I hope that Corrections Canada wants me. It would nice to know that I worked on my degree with some purpose and I just didn't go to school for 8 years for nothing.

REJECTION!

So I got two letters this morning from the Correctional Service of Canada. One is about the parole officer position that I applied for about a month and a half ago. The other one was for an administrative services assistant position that I applied for two weeks ago. I am holding out for some other positions but I hope that I get something soon because I would really really like to start doing something related towards my education instead of just "being here".

I have just applied for my third position with Corrections Canada. I hope that they will have seen my name on enough applications that they will just finally give me something so that I can get going on my career!!

I can't wait to see what happens! It would be nice to get something that I use my education with. Something where I can make a positive impact on society. Afterall it seems lately that there are so many others that are making such a negative impact.

Another little task done!

So I am actually able to get some "office" stuff done for the cafe which is really nice, although I have a feeling that I am not going to get as much as I wanted done tomorrow because it's a sale day. ANYWAYS!!! I ended up taking the afternoon off to take my dear hubby to Calgary to run some errands. We dropped of signature pages off at the immigration consultant's office, and Max also completed his medical and it is all clear with the exception of his eyes, apparently he has to make an appointment to see an opthamologist to get something looked at. He also had to go the deep south of Calgary to get blood tests and chest x-rays. Yeah it was a pretty interesting drive home. I didn't realize Calgary has gotten so big.

It's been too damn hot here lately so the rain today is such a good relief! It is so nice just to sit here and watch the rain! I love the days were I can just relax in my sweatpants, curl up under a blanket and just read a book, or play on the net! I missed these days. Welcome back rain!!

Here I go waiting again!!!! I am waiting to hear back on the dozens of jobs that I have applied for. I am waiting for the immigration department to give Max the work permit he needs so that he can find a job and get his career on the way. I am waiting to see what kind of house we will be able to get once we get established in at least one of these jobs, so that I can leave the coffee house and it's drama (OHHHH THE DRAMA!) behind and start on something that I will find intellectually stimulating.

Ahhh, some normalcy!!

Well it's getting pretty damn close. One more night in the airbed and Max and I (we have been sleeping separately) can have our bed back! His mom and dad leave tomorrow. In all reality it wasn't as bad as I thought that it would be. My mother-in-law can be rather nice when she is relaxed. She has even made the comment that she doesn't really want to go back home tomorrow. I guess I can take that as a complement!!

I am really looking forward to calming down and settling in. Max has already booked his ticket back here for the 9th of September. So that means I get the bed to myself for over a month and then it's back to cohabitating bliss!

Well all is not well at the coffee shop, business is slow and well quite frankly I am getting bored. Plus the usual stuff that goes on here is starting to make me go crazy!

Enough with the heat already!

It is so hot right now!!! Pretty much everyone here has taken refuge in the basement because it is the only place in the house in which you can sit and not bake to death. AHHHHH, I can't wait for the snow!

Lazy days of summer!

Yeah this sucks!! Here I am stuck at work because if I don't get 40 hours in someone is going to complain and well I don't like the sound of that, but yet I have this yearning to be out and about so to speak.

The weather is realtively nice, by that I mean that it is nice but in a way a bit too hot for my liking!! My husband is here for the summer and well I always want to be doing something with him because it always seems like time is so short with him.

Plus there is this degree of freedom that I feel that I have never felt before, I don't have to go to school any more. I can sit back and relax, I don't have to look at everything so critically anymore, I can take things as they are and not analyze the heck out of it, or I can analyze the way that I want to and not how some else does!!

Well I guess that I should get back to work and do something, or better yet what I should do is something that makes me look like I am busy but in all reality I am not, I killed two hours this morning doing that. It was rather fun!

Glad that I didn't decide to do this on my own!

Well I can't say that business is good. I am lucky if I make enough money to cover my own salary let alone three others!!! I am pretty happy that I decided to do this because now I know.

So how on earth do I get more people in here? We are in a good location (could be better like on main street, but at least we have tons of parking!), it just seems as though we aren't getting in the people that we could. GRRRRR

I just got home and just realized oh shit! It's been a week since my bridal shower and I still haven't gotten my thank you notes done!! Guess what I am doing tonight!!

Immigration ain't so hard!!

So I'm sorry that I haven't had the time lately to post about our little trip down to an immigration expert. It was an interesting experience. The guy totally sounds like he knows something which is nice because when you are dealing with this sort of bureaucracy it's easy to get the wrong information. So for about $2500 CDN my husband will be able to live here full time in hopefully seven to eight months time. Pretty cool eh! As it turns out we could have gotten this all started back in September when we got married and he could have been here by now. The other good news that we found out is that if he can find a company that is willing to do all the paper work involved to get a work permit he can do that as well while he is waiting for landed immigrant status! YAHHHHH!!

Finally things seem to be coming together, now if I could only find a job related to my education!!!

OOOOhhhh now what do I do!!!!

Wow this is it. This is the first summer in a very long time where I didn't have a course looming over my head! It's so strange, it's like I don't know what to do with myself!!! I have a whole shelf of books to be read, three rubbermaid totes full of wool waiting to be knitted ( yeah I learned how to knit when I was about 8 and now I make blankies and mitts for everyone I know) and a very very full time husband!! Yet I still feel like I should be doing something else. But then again I think to myself that his little sister and her boyfriend are going to be here in a weeks time, trust me it's going to keep me occupied for the next three weeks, then his parents, an aunt and uncle, an older half-sister, and a cousin to contend with. Yes I think this will be very interesting indeed!

I recieved an e-mail from my prof today and he told me that I passed my Religious Studies course, so this means that I GET TO GRADUATE!!!!!!!! I will walk in November!!!!!! I can't believe this! I swear I must be dreaming!! YEAHHHHHHHHH!!!!

The Bridal Shower!

Well being overwhelmed is rather an understatement right now. The small corner of stuff that I had has now exploded to one wall of the basement. I can't beileve all the stuff that we recieved. Max was standing there is total shock. He didn't know what to think of all of this and when my mom and I mentioned that we will also receive wedding presents he nearly hit the floor! It's so nice we are going to be able to move out and just worry about making mortgage payments instead of trying to get stuff for our house! Thanks again to all who came, this was a lot of fun! I wanna get married all over again! :)

Immigration Experts!

Max and I are headed down to Calgary some day this week to see a gentleman who is an immigration consultant. I am getting pretty excited about this because this could mean that Max could stay here permanently and he would be able to get a job and work here! It would be so nice to know that he could stay here. I would be so nice to know that now my life can actually start and we can make plans, like looking into getting a house built and making plans for dinner parties!!

The last exam ever?

I went down to Calgary today to write my final in my Religious Studies class. A class which in some respects was interesting (Muslims aren't so bad!!)and in other ways it wasn't so good either. I bombed both midterms!! Not bad but it just made me work harder to pass that's all. So I wrote what I hope and pray ( hummm interesting usage of words!) is my last exam ever for the University of Calgary. I think that I did really well in the respect that I wrote and wrote all that I could on the short answer questions. I even ended up putting lots on the back of one page which for me is pretty rare. So it's just two classes to go in my Ending Hate and Making Peace class and I am going to be finished with University!! YEAHHHHHHH!

I wanna rock and roll!

That's right I want to party. I want to party so hard. I want to party so hard that it take over three days to recover from partying so hard!!! Yeah that is what I would like to happen!

It's official I am no longer employed at the hospital anymore. I went and handed in my badge. My boss seems a bit disappointed. To be honest I am as well just for the simple fact it was a nice easy job, for the most part. Hopefully I will be able to find something where I can sit in an office all day!

I have forgotten the pleasure of sleeping in!!! Friday can't come soon enough, hell next Tuesday can't come fast enough. That is officially the last day of classes for me!!! YEAH!

The countdown is on!

I finish one course at the end of the week and the other one I finish next week! YEAHHHHH! I am so looking forward to having three days off that I am going to spend at least one of them in bed, recovering from a hangover!!

Max is finally here. All of a sudden there are people saying that they know a person who could help us and they know another person who could do this. WHY didn't they say something last fall when we got married!?! Max could have been here for Christmas and then he could have stayed and who knows he could have maybe even found a job and we could have been one step closer to getting our dream house built. Ohhh, we even agreed on that too!!

My eagle has landed in London!!

I just checked the Heathrow airport website and it says that his flight has landed 10 minutes early... nice! Now he's probably making his way through the endless coradors through out the airport to the transit lounge that thousands are forced to sit in while they announce your gate for your connecting flight. He's going shopping for me too, this should be very interesting!

It's official, his flight from Gothenburg to London has officially taken off!! YEAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! I have been bouncing around all evening, that is when I haven't been sleeping!!! I can't wait to get out of bed in the morning... ohhh haven't said that in a long time!

I am at the brink of exhaustion!!! I don't remember how many days in a row that I have been to work but it's been about two weeks since I have actually had a full day off!! I just realized that my husband is going to be by my side in less than 48 hours!!! OOOOOOHHHHH!!! And then I am going to drop him off in a pub while I go to my evening class. Nice wife aren't I!!!

World Cup 2006

Yeah yeah it's that time yet again!!

Most North American women (who aren't married to Europeans or South Americans) have really no clue what this is like. There is something comparable in Canada but that is about it (ummm Stanley Cup). So yeah I have lost my husband for a month. I can imagine right now that both him and his father are glued to the television awaiting to find out if England will actually win their first game or if the unintentional goal by Uraguay was just a fluke of nature.

Ending Hate and Making Peace!

So I started my three-week course tonight, after being delayed for two days. Anyways, it seems like it is a pretty interesting course. The prof is an American, which when I first found out I though ohhhhh no. But she's pretty cool. She's Jewish, she didn't think that some of us could tell, but I kinda had a feeling she was. Anyways she describes herself as a black chick stuck in a crazy white chick's body! Doesn't agree with the Bush ideology (that comment won me over in a heart beat).

So this is going to be pretty interesting, it is a one of a kind kind of course. She is only one of a few dozen people who specialize in this field. So here's to crazy Americans!!

Less than a week to go!

Ooooh the countdown is on!!!

It's less than a week til my hubby gets here! There's so much to do. I have school in Calgary 5 days a week now until the end of the month (holy shit what was I thinking??) Plus there are the few loose ends to tie up with the wedding. I tell ya this has been rather stress free. Unlike one girl that I know who is getting married within the next two weeks. Her entire family is stressing out about the whole thing!! Why??? Really when you think about it, it's only a few hours out of your life and chances are you'll end up remembering the stuff that was planned moreso than the stuff that was meticuously (i know!) planned out!

Reminicing!

I have been thinking alot about stuff from when I was a kid. One of those things is the Colecovision video game system. I had one when I was a kid, got many hours of enjoyment out of it too. Since we have moved into our house I don't recall where exactly the console went to so I thought for the heck of it I would check out e-bay. Yikes!! They haven't gone down in price let me tell ya! But I am going to wait and see. I did bid on some stuff but oh well what the hell! So if you wanna help me out go and out bid me.

High School Memories!!

Today as part of my cool job of running a coffee shop I got to go back to my old high school. There were a group of kids, very very talented kids, who are in a band called Intended Response. They were kind of having a year end concert of sorts and I was there to sell coffee to raise funds for the Arts program at the high school. I heard something pretty sad today. I guess that school board is cutting the Jazz Band. It's pretty bad, I was there when it was created. I am so disappointed because it seems as though we have alot of talent in this town. It was one of those things that it was because of band (yeah yeah I know I am a band geek) that I graduated from high school. Why is it that they always axe the arts first??? I really hate to imagine to see how much money this school has spent getting a football team!! Not that I am ragging on athletics because I am pretty sure that there are a few students out there who wouldn't be in school if it weren't for football, but I mean really???


Anyways I saw my old English teacher who failed me sooooo many times. When I was in his class I spent most of my time thinking of other things and not concentrating on how alot of the storylines of Shakespeare relate to 21st century life. The one thing that I did think was pretty cool is that he's been a teacher there for something like 30 years now, which is pretty remarkable when you think about it. Anyways he has a book with a list of students that he has taught over the years. Both my husband and myself are in there. He has always encouraged us to update it when ever we are around, so I went and chitchatted with him for a few minutes. He's pretty happy that I have been able to get so far, even though I failed two of his classes!

Getting prepped for the in-laws!!

So today was the last day of a sale at work where I could by a package of 24 toilet paper for $6, so what do I do, I buy two cases or eight packages!!!! I figure seems we have three bathrooms here at my house that we would probably probably use quite a bit in the three weeks that I am hosting my inlaws.

So it's about a month and ten days to go. I hope that my father-in-law has alot of fun. And I hope that my mother-in-law chills :);)

AND... it's less than 10 days to go until I get to see my HUSBAND!!!!

Pretty damn cool!

There was nothing interesting on tv tonight or so I thought. I ended up watching the Scripps spelling bee. It was pretty damn cool. A Canadian girl, from Alberta, Finola Hackett ended up second out of the whole thing. This is pretty huge when you think about it. This contest is pretty much the world championships of spelling and this girl from small town Alberta was only one letter (albeit a pretty damn close letter) away from taking the whole thing.

Three weeks in and I've got a meeting!

Tomorrow will mark the start of the third week into my new "management" job. Nothing like starting it off with a meeting with my manager and the General Manager for the entire Co-op!!! Part of me is kinda nervous, what happens if I am not presenting what they are looking for? Part of me is excited because I know what I am talking about. I spent just about every day of my 10 months in Sweden in a cafe or getting something at a cafe.

The thing that I find rather amusing is that the days that we do really well in terms of sales are the days that the older lady isn't there. I really don't like her either. Don't get me wrong she seems like a really nice lady but the thing is she is so misguided in so many ways that it's frustrating to keep her around. Everything that I try to change around and improve she tries to change it back. It's to the point that I am tempted to haul her into the office with my boss and confront her on it. The thing that really bothers me is that it is obvious that she would love to take a position of authority, it's totally written in her personality. If she wanted it so bad why didn't she apply for the position!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Oh well she's off for three weeks starting next week so I guess that is one thing less that I have to deal with.

School is well school. The Religious Studies course that I am taking is more challenging than what I anticipated. I am kinda disappointed in all reality. The prof is sort of interesting in his own special way. Although you gotta give the guy credit. His wife is pregnant with twins for the first time around. The other course starts next week. And I am in a way not looking forward to it because well I am going to be pretty damn busy with that. But come June 30th I am going to be finished and I can start doing something better! WAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY BETTER!!

Ok the last post that I put on here was this morning commenting on how much I do like my new job. Well... Ok ahhhhh.

Well, the thing is I am always looking for something better, something that uses the degree that I have worked so hard for. So needless to say I have been looking on the government websites at positions that want someone with my sort of education.

I think that I have found it... I just put an application in for a Probation Officer at the Drumheller Institution. To me it is a long shot, but I would be so excited to get an interview, at least this way I know what they would be looking for. I won't know until July, so this gives me an opportunity to really get stuff together at the Cafe so if I do have to leave, the next person that takes over won't be starting from square one like me (not that I am complaining, it makes me look busy!

It is a Monday, a holiday Monday and I am curled up in bed writing this post. It's not because I am sick or anything... no nothing like that at all. I am just enjoying a nice morning of sleeping in because I have the day off. I don't ever remember having a statutory holiday off. EVER!!!!

Make that I am gonna cheer on the Oiler fans. They are pretty damn classy you know that. Apparently when the Oilers played their last game in Tampa, they booed the Canadian anthem (damn Americans!!). Pretty rude I think. Anyways last night when they played in Edmonton, the Oilers fans cheered so loud during the American anthem that the guy singing the anthem almost screwed up because he couldn't hear himself sing. To me that's pretty darn classy!!! So...

I am going to try a little experiment!

I think that I am going at this an old fashioned way, but then again most of the people who represent us in government are pretty much old fashioned middle aged men (sorry that I sound like a feminist, but is sort of true, you have to admit it!) I am going to start a letter writing campaign. I would love to see an immigration policy that emphasizes the reunification of spouses. I am frustrated with the way that the system operates. We started getting this stuff together almost a year ago and we still haven't even gotten everything required to even consider sending the application in. My husband is not a criminal, yes he has lived in alot of places and been to alot of countries but that shouldn't make him suspect to criminal activity. He is highly educated, hell he's bilingual for crying out loud. He wants to come to this country not only because he's married to someone who is a citizen here, but because he knows this is a good country to live in, and that this is a country whereby he can achieve his goals and create a good life for himself and his future family.

Mr. Harper, our immigration system needs a critical overhaul. It shouldn't take more than 10 months to get an RCMP criminal record check. For someone who has twice previously been given student visas to study in this country and now wants to call this beloved country home, it is hard to not to feel disappointed, outraged, and highly frustrated. It is obvious that widening the tax base is not one of your priorities!! Think about it, the more taxes you can collect the more money you can give back to families for wasteful tax credits.

Immigration is our only hope in sustaining the growth of this country. We have such potenital and it seems that denying entry to those who would like to enter is going to be detrimental to this country's future. I would hate for my children to have to experience the frustration that I have, and I would also hate to see my children have to move to a different country should they decide to marry someone who is not Canadian.

I like my new job!

Wow! I have so much to do! The last manager that they had there did leave me much to work with so I pretty much have to start from square one. I am not complaining though because in reality I enjoy doing this sort of thing. I get to do alot of administrative stuff, and I get to promote stuff too which has some perks to the job as well. I am hoping that this will pan out into something more. But for now I am just going to enjoy the fact that I have finally earned myself a management position! Not to mention all the coffee I could possibly consume!!

Finally a little recognition!!

I don't complain about too many things. I figure that I am pretty lucky to be where I am. However when the subject comes to my in-laws the story can be a little different. I have known this family for nearly 10 years and most of the time I feel like a fish out water, especially when it comes to my mother-in-law. Anyways they have a website promoting their various business ventures, on one part it highlights the family. Not normally this wouldn't bother me however my sister-inlaw's boyfriend was mentioned and I was not. (My husband and I have been together for nearly 10 years while her boyfriend (who is rather handy to have around) and her have been together for only somethng like three or four years now) You kinda see what I am getting at here.

So it's feels kinda nice. Although there's is substantial room for improvement...

I'll just leave it at that, after all I am not ungrateful.

Coffee Talk

So I have had two days on the job now and I have come the to conclusion that running a coffee shop is going to keep me busy. I have so much administrative stuff to do that it will take me weeks and weeks to get it up to snuff. AND then! I also have alot of promoting to do. All day Thursday all I heard was that they didn't know that this place existed. I am hoping to get my sales up so that this seems legitimate and not just some phase in history.

Mental Health

Yeah I am thinking that there should be mental health assessment done on some of these people!!

I'm a Manager!!

Oh my gosh!!!!! I can't believe it, I went down this morning to find out whether or not I was going in for an interview. Well I got taken upstairs and told that I had the job if I wanted it!!!

COOL!!!

So the wage isn't great, oh well. But I get benefits and after a year I will qualify to for pension benefits as well.


SO... I guess I am going to give it a try. At least my friend Tara is excited to see me coming back!!!

It's getting closer!

Okay my house looks like a florist shoppe.
I get reply cards just about everyday now in the mail.
It's almost a month now until hubby gets here.
And now things are starting to come into place.
Plans are being made for a bridal shower.
And plans are getting made for Max as well.

I haven't been able to get ahold of my husband on a landline for over three days now. Why? Because the underground phone line was severed in the little village that he lives close to!!! OI!

Got a job interview!

I got a job interview for Tuesday morning!! It's for a receptionist position at a welding shop in Red Deer. It's part-time until Fall which turns into a full-time position. Ooooo I could handle that, with all my in-laws coming over this summer I can handle working only part-time! Still haven't heard about the coffee shop thing, but then again I gotta wait until early next week.

Can't say that I didn't try!

So it has come to my attention that they are looking for a Manager for the coffee shop in the local Co-op. It sounds really interesting, I mean I fell in love with the whole cafe lifestyle in Sweden. It's something that I have thought about doing on my own, and I guess that this is an opportunity to see if I would actually like doing something like this.

So this morning, after laying in bed and thinking about it for over an hour I decided to get up and get dressed and hand in my resume. The worst that can happen is that either I say no (not enough money) or they say no (because I want too much money). So I get there and the lady in the administration office makes me fill out an application form (ha ha ha, I worked there for over 5 years and they want me to fill out an application form??) so as it turns out, the HR lady is across the street and they call my old manager! I think that this is pretty funny because the guy is one of my references on my resume!! So he's standing there dumbfounded, he doesn't know what questions to ask me, because he knows me and he knows what experience I have had and knows that I can be trusted (hell I used to run the whole grocery on the weekends!!)

So he said that he would give me a call at the beginning of the week. I guess that I am going to have to wait and see. I hope that I get it, because it would mean that I wouldn't have to drive so far for work, I get to work at place that I am familiar with and I get to try something that I think would be a great starting point for opening my own business.

Do I cheer for the Oilers???

Okay seems I haven't had to work in a while I have been left to my own thoughts, which if you read this regularily means that this is a very dangerous thing for me.

I was able to watch some of the hockey game last night and well I was disappointed. Hopes were high this year, this was going to be the year that Calgary brought the cup back to Canada... Western Canada. Unfortunately it was not to be for the Flames. Now I am stuggling with a thought. Actually I am trying to decide if this is scary or not. Do I cheer for the Oilers???

This would go against every grain in my body. Maybe I'll go with hubby on this one and cheer for the Senators!! At least there would be some color semblance!

This sucks!

So the Flames lost. Bummer! I was hoping that they would make it all the way this time. So now I guess that I have to do something that is not entirely in my nature. I am going to the cheer for the Oilers. Even the Habs (my hubby's favorite team) got knocked out.

I guess there is always next year. At least if the cup ends up in Alberta, the magic may rub off on Calgary.

Going back to class in three days!

Wow I can't believe this, I am going back to class on Saturday. I am taking a Religious Studies class, it's an option to finish off my degree. Now I haven't got a clue as to what the difference is between God and Allah and I am hoping that I will know once I am finished. I just wish that I could take the course about Eastern religion because I think it's more my thing anyways!!

Spending the day at home

I really hate this! I am at home today because I didn't called into work today. So I got to sleep in yadda yadda. But I got to thinking this morning, it's pretty bad, when I am at home I'd rather be at work and when I am at work I'd rather be at home. I just hope that I am able to find something that makes me look forward to getting out of bed, getting all dressed up to go to work. I wonder if there is such a thing out there! Hmmmmmmmm here's hoping!

Okay so I did really good today, got lots of little things done!

I ordered my grad pictures.
I finished my wedding registries.
I got my dog groomed (but they didn't do a good job of his ears or his tail).
I got started on my new resume.
Sent off a bunch of important papers and stuff.

It's less than 40 some days until my hubby comes, that will be nice. Someone to snuggle with :):):)

Yeah I know that it has been a while. Been rather busy the last few weeks.

Let me see, got school all finished up, I am still waiting for a course mark in one more course and then that will be all finished up.

Got the bridesmaids their dresses!! That was easy!

Started working as a Unit Assitant and found out that I really am not keen on it. I am looking for an office job. Something where I am not on my feet all the time.

Got almost all of my wedding invitations sent out, and the registry is almost finished!

I start classes again on Saturday.

So now what is left to do:

I got an e-mail from my husband this morning. Apparently his fingerprints for his Canadian criminal record check was rejected yet again!!! This is the second time that he has sent them in. The thing that makes this blow to the head even harder to take this time was that apparently a letter was sent back in January but he didn't get it!!

And of course per usual, this happens when I am busy with stuff for school. I have been trying to write a paper for my sociology of law class for days now (ironically enough it is on immigration laws and policies) and preparing for finals. I hope that in a way that when my husband comes over this summer for a visit that the criminal record check that you have to pay for will be suffice, either that or I will hire someone who is a expert at fingerprinting to get this done so we can start the application process. I'm beginning to wonder if hiring a lawyer would be a good idea as well. I'd love to sue the RCMP for something related to this. Maybe this way I could get my grumpy husband to be happy again. I hate it when he gets cranky on me.

Last minute crush!

I had a rather enlightening meeting yesterday with one the new profs at school, who is totally cool and I am kinda bummed out that I don't have school next year. Anyways she's totally understanding that I have been stressed out and that I haven't gotten my poop in group. (fuck Gail!) Anyways she is so nice enough to let me finish everything and mark it all for me. I am almost finished writing my article reviews, but I smell funny, really funky to be truthful. I had a really weird night. My tv is short circutting for some strange reason. I was working on my computer and listening to the tv and kept on turning off and on, freakin me out so I had to unplug it. I worked for a while and then went to bed because I was getting frustrated. Mom brought down the dog at about 5:30 this morning because well it's what we do, anyways he kept on coughing and stuff so I didn't sleep well this morning so I didn't get out of bed until late this morning which threw everything off. I am doing good though. I should be finished everything by friday, party on saturday and then back to the books for finals next week! OHHHHH I am so almost finished.

Ohh what a milestone!

Last day of classes at RDC!

Oh my gosh, here I am some eight years later and this is my final day of classes. I am so nervous and keyed up right now because I haven't slept in something like 3 or 4 days now, I've lost track, becuase of stuff related to school. All sorts of stuff has been going on, I have had to readjust my schedule at U of C because the decided to cancel one of the courses that I had signed up for. Not to worry though as it turns out I was able to readjust my schedule so that I can start work at a different department two months earlier than I had anticipated. Which is awesome. I have finished writing 4 papers within the last five days which is pretty remarkable, for me. I still have one paper left to write right now and I am rather stressed out because I came to school with the intention of going to one of my classes and it was cancelled, oops missed too many of them!! So now I am thinking shit I could have been spending this time working on this paper that I still have due but instead I am stuck here at school, killing time and getting more and more nervous about my final presentation in my Sociology of development course!!

I had to have a little giggle to myself though. Here I am, this is my last day of classes and I am just as nervous now and I was my first day here. I don't know if I have come full circle on this one yet. I don't know if I really want to leave here and grow up (so to speak). I think that is why I am considering coming back and getting a two year add-on for a Bachelors in Social Work.

I am prepared however to celebrate, after all I have put in a rather decent effort to achieve this. I am still the only person in my family who has gone to university and has gotten a degree. That's a pretty big achievement. It's a pretty big achievement for someone who was told in the first grade by her teacher that I wouldn't amount to a whole lot.

And so now I wait...

Less than a week to go!!!

It's really starting to be crunch time... and what am I doing right now????? I am currently at the library at school looking for articles to finish up a paper that I should have done like a week ago, make that two weeks ago but we were given extensions and well I just used that as excuse to start the paper last week! I just finished reading through 13 articles and found that 7 of them were applicable, so now I came back for another 7 to hopefully get my 10 articles!!! Not to mention that I decided that I should also find some more articles for my sociology of law paper as well! GRRRR. Ohhhh and then to top it all off I haven't even started to think about my Sociology of Development paper which was supposed to be on Tuesday but will hopefully be done sometime saturday when I sit down and do it. I really do hate to be late with all of these but my motivation is kaput, and my husband is being a moron to boot...

One week left!

I'm having a complete meltdown point right now. I have so much left to do and so little time left to do it. I didn't get anything done on Sunday because I had a rather rough day at work and well how on earth can you write about eating and sleeping disorders when you know that someone just died! I think that is the only problem that I am going to have with this new job of mine. I don't deal with death well, I never have. In fact my father's death still bugs me to this day because well to me it is still a strange and weird thing, hence the recurring dreams where logic just isn't right!!!

Back to the books, if I keep going I just might be able to get three assignments that I was supposed to do throughout the term done before the last class! OOOOHHH!

One step closer to being gone!!

The big buzz around these parts is the astonishingly bad leadership review of Ralph Klein. 55%! Boy, I knew it was going to be not nearly as good as last time but 55%! Wow! I think that he better take the hint and leave while things are still good. Let someone take over who is willing to invest in some good infrastructure to keep things going instead of hitting that proverbial brick wall! It's gonna happen if he doesn't leave!!
